According to the preliminary results of the 2020 census, Mainland China has a total population of 1.412 billion. This corresponds to an increase by 72.05 million (5.38%) within the last decade. 902 million persons (63.9%) live in urban areas. The share of urban population grew by 14.2 percentage points.
The total end-of-2019 population of the People's Republic of China (excluding Hong Kong and Macau) crossed the mark of 1.4 billion. Guăngdōng and Shāndōng are the most populous provinces with an estimated population of 115.21 million and 100.7 million, respectively.
