As impact of the 30% increase of urban population between 2009 and 2019, many cities and towns in the outskirts of major cities are listed with higher population figures, e.g., Thuận An (urban population in 2019: 588,616), Dĩ An (474,681), Thủ Dầu Một (321,607), and Tân Uyên (251,694) around Hồ Chí Minh City.

The results of the 2019 census published in December 2019 show no differences in respect to total and gender population compared to the preliminary results. The urban figures slightly differ. The 2019 age distribution is now available on province level.

According to the preliminary results of the 2019 census, the total population of Vietnam increased by 12.1% from 85.85 million in 2009 to 96.21 million ten years later. The urban population grew by 30% from 25.44 to 33.06 million during the same period.
